New Members Always Welcome

2014 promises to be a great year for our club so why not come along and see for yourself. New members are always welcome.

Our members work in a variety of media e.g. watercolour, acrylic, pastel, pencil and oil to name but a few.

Many of them use watercolour as their first choice and here is an example "Whitby", by B Marsh, a club member.

A Great Way To Start The New Year!

Those resolutions you made 2 weeks ago were good ideas but did you ever think of finding something that would help you:-

  • Relax & reduce stress
  • Find a rewarding and absorbing hobby at little cost
  • Meet new friends in a happy social environment
  • Discover something you may have lost since childhood - the pleasure of drawing and painting.
  • Have the chance to make beautiful , unique presents for your family and friends.
If so, we may well be what you have been looking for.

Lots of people I meet say they like/ used to do painting/ drawing etc. They are convinced they can't for some reason or other. happily that is not true. It is a proven fact that anyone who can follow a recipe or drive a car etc can paint or draw. They just don't believe it.

I know people are also put off by a fear of not being self conscious and / or good enough.

We don't have any competition in our club. Beginners can do their own thing or ask for any help they may need which will be given readily with pleasure. No one will judge you.

The monthly shows we have are certainly not mandatory and there will never be any pressure to take part in them.

However if you do wish to exhibit there is no qualifying period of membership. All we ask is that you do your share of supporting the club by regular attendance when you are able.

Our costs are small and there is no need to bring anything to start. we will provide what you need for your first couple of classes until you know whether you want to stay.Your only costs will be £2.50 per night to cover room rental plus coffee/tea and biscuits.

If you already have some art materials then feel free to bring them along.

We look forward to seeing you on or after Monday 13th January.

The Painting Starts Here!

Our new year starts with the first club meeting on Monday 13 January 2014.

We invite you to come and join us!

What you can expect from us.
An easy going place to start or develop your artistic skills by learning at your own pace.

We will supply help and support if you need it or, if you prefer, you can do your own thing. Most evenings are not formal classes and members are free to work in most media except oils as they never get on well with the carpet!

Advice is always there and all you have to do is ask.

We have a formal constitution which is  open to inspection. Our committee is elected every year. Anyone can participate as we have no “pecking” order.

Our Aims
To promote amateur art across the Atherleigh / Wigan areas and beyond. Although the core of our members are locals we welcome new members from further afield.

Our emphasis is on the enjoyment of creating art in a sociable environment.

We exhibit throughout the year at various weekend shows and our main annual exhibition in Leigh Library.

All members are welcome to exhibit from when they join but this is not mandatory. All we ask is that they be participating members in various   aspects of our club’s weekly activities.

What does it cost?
We have a very reasonable annual membership fee of £10.00 and an additional weekly attendance fee of £2.50 which goes towards the cost of the room and provides complimentary tea, coffee and  biscuits.

What do I need to start?
If you are a beginner, please don’t buy anything before you come along. Everything can be provided free for a couple of weeks to allow you to  decide whether you want to stay.

At that point you can join the club and you will be advised as to what  materials  you will need to avoid any unnecessary expense. You will be surprised how little it all costs to get started.

If you fancy having a go then don't put it off. You have nothing to lose and so much to gain. Please remember everyone has to start somewhere.

We look forward to seeing our existing members and look forward to meeting many more new ones in the coming months.

If you want to know anything else please do not hesitate to call us on 07974543123 or email leighcommunityartgroup@gmail.com
