Invitation to an Exhibition

Last Monday I was at Leigh Community Art Group where our Chairman, Trevor Gardner, read out an invitation from a group run, to assist the integration on people with mental health issues and learning difficulties, into society. They are called "The Spinney Group".

Leigh Community Art Group is proud to be associated with an endeavour such as this. They are holding an open exhibition on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week to show , amongst other formats, their artistic creations.

The exhibition is being held at 14 Walmesley Road, Leigh, WN7. The premises used to be a printing place and is situated a few steps away from Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Spinney is a mental health treatment centre situated in Atherton.    The contact person at this exhibition is called Jan.

The hours of opening are as follows:-

Tuesday   this Tuesday 17th March – between 1300  – 1500 hrs ;

and on Wednesday , 18th March between 10 – midday and 1300 – 1500 hrs.

Art is a very useful and productive tool in such groups so if you have a few minutes spare why not pop along to  and show your support which would be very much appreciated.

Finally watch this space for a planned series of articles showing the stages in making a beautiful pastel drawing of a well known classical painting.

Next weekend is the final one of what has been yet another very successful exhibition. Therefore you have another 3 opportunities to buy an original art work for yourself or to make a beautiful present for someone else.

Meanwhile here is "Cabanon au Luberon", an oil on canvas by one of our members.

In Memory of Bev Brooks

28 Jan 1959 - 30 Dec 2014

It was with great sadness and heavy hearts that we learned of the passing of our friend and fellow artist Beverly Anne Brooks, who died on the 30th December 2014.

Bev, as she liked to be called, had been an active artist within the Leigh Community Art Group for many years and enjoyed lasting friendships with members. Bev was also a member of Art Zone, an art group meeting weekly at Abram Community Centre.

Bev was an accomplished and successful artist, supporting the Leigh Community Art Group's many art exhibitions each year. Whilst she had her own distinctive style of painting subjects such as buildings, countryside, clouds, birds in the sky and other sky scenes, mostly using acrylics , she was adept at using all mediums of art and was eclectic in her painting abilities.

As well as being known for her passionate embrace of art and colour, Bev was also known for her bubbly personality and great sense of humour, even when she was not feeling very well. She has been a great ambassador for Leigh Community Art Group and members will continue to miss her presence, laughter and cheerfulness every Monday evening.

Bev's lasting legacy is her beautiful paintings which hang in the homes of so many people, her inspirational artistry and her commitment and support to the members of Leigh Community Art Group.

Rest in Peace.

Donations in memory of Bev can be sent direct to Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

LCAG Opens For 2015!

Yes, we are open again from Monday 19 January 2015 at 6.30. We look forward to seeing all our old members and new ones alike.

Remember you are always welcome to start regardless of ability and will be given any help you require or you can work alone as you choose.

Normally we do not have tutored classes so it is a great way to meet new friends. We have a very relaxed approach to doing art with the emphasis on enjoyment, otherwise what is the point?

If  you want more information then please have a look around the blog where you will have most if not all of your questions answered. If you need anything else please ring the mobile number 07974543123 or email us at leighcommunityartgroup@gmail.com

Remember, everybody , no matter what their ability, had to start somewhere!
